Drink more tea to live longer

A new report from doctors in China found that regular tea consumption is associated with healthier years in life and increased longevity. People who drink tea more than three times a week have a 20% lower risk of heart disease and stroke than people who don’t drink tea regularly or never.

Those who drink tea are less likely to die from heart disease or stroke, and they are 15% less likely to die from almost any other disease. But the type of tea you drink is also important. Analyzes have shown that drinking green tea has been associated with an almost 25% reduction in the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Tea consumption and increasing health

Regular consumption of tea appears to be the key to its amazing health benefits. The interesting part of the findings in this study is that the longer you are used to drinking tea, the more you will benefit from its benefits.

According to the findings, the risk of cardiovascular diseases among 4267 people who drank tea regularly for at least 8 years was 40% lower. These people were 56% less likely to die from heart disease and stroke and 29% less likely to die from other diseases.

The scientists presented their findings based on an analysis of data from 100,902 people who did not have a history of heart attack, stroke or cancer. During a 7-year period after that, 3683 people had developed cardiovascular diseases (such as stroke and heart attack) and 1477 people had died as a result of these complications. A total of 5479 people died due to other diseases.

Why is green tea so useful?

The researchers say the report fits well with other research that has highlighted the protective effects of tea on heart health. Tea is rich in powerful antioxidants that are said to have many benefits for cardiovascular health, including protecting the arteries from inflammation and stress and lowering blood pressure. Green tea, in particular, is more beneficial because it is less processed than black tea, so there are more beneficial substances in the final product.

Green tea has bioactive compounds including flavonoids such as catechin and polyphenols, all of which have significant effects on the heart and blood vessels. Polyphenols are also found in olive oil and cocoa.

Known benefits associated with these polyphenols and flavonoids are anti-inflammatory. Therefore, they improve the function of blood vessels by widening the vessels and removing their contraction, and as a result, the function of heart cells improves and good cholesterol increases, blood pressure is balanced, the risk of inflammatory factors such as C-reactive protein and interleukin 6 is reduced, and the possibility of clots Blood clotting decreases and blood platelets stick together less.

Analyzes showed that people who drink tea regularly have a 20% lower risk of developing heart disease and stroke and a 22% lower risk of dying from heart disease and stroke. Specifically, they found that regular tea drinkers can expect to live 1.26 years longer at age 50 than people who don’t regularly enjoy a cup of tea.

Do not underestimate the benefits of black tea

According to scientists, there are several reasons why black tea may not have significant health benefits for people who drink black tea regularly. One is that black tea loses some of its antioxidant properties during the fermentation process where its polyphenols are oxidized.

In addition, consuming black tea with milk can interfere with the positive effects of tea on vascular function. Also, the fact that the study was conducted in China can also affect the results. Almost half of the people participating in the research who used to drink tea mostly drank green tea, while only 8% of them preferred black tea.

Black tea is common in European countries, and findings have shown that consumption of this tea is associated with a reduced risk of stroke and coronary artery disease in the Netherlands, Finland, and Sweden. Coffee also has almost the same health benefits. Studies conducted on coffee have also found that the antioxidants in coffee can protect heart health.

Are the benefits of tea different for women and men?

It seems that among the people participating in this study, men benefit from the benefits of tea more than women. One reason could be that men were more likely to drink tea than women (about two and a half times more). Another reason is that in China and East Asian countries, women are usually less likely to die from heart disease.

The study conducted was not a randomized controlled trial and other significant factors were not involved in this evaluation. Diet, lifestyle, and genetic risk factors may all affect how the body uses tea.

Scientists say that in their next studies, they will focus more on the effects of flavonoids and polyphenols and whether the concentrate of these elements in the form of a supplement will have the same results or not.
